Kao, Mary Liu. Cataloging and Classification for Library Technicians. Haworth Press, 1995.
        A manual that looks at the steps involved in descriptive cataloging, assigning subject
        headings, determining classification numbers and basic MARC techniques.

From the Library of Congress, this is a site that deals with all aspects of cataloging. It has online catalogs to search, frequently asked questions, information about LC publications related to cataloging, and connections to their support office.

Currently 5 volumes, this subject heading list is used by the Library of Congress in all the cataloging that they do. It is comprehensive and generally covers subjects with scientific or professional terminology. Geared towards the larger public or academic library.

Dewey Decimal Classification

Available in either an unabridged or abridged version, this supplies classification numbers for organizing library materials. The abridged version is designed for smaller libraries, to create an organizational scheme without the complexity of the full version, but the two versions cannot be used interchangeably.
