The reason for using this type of number building is that there are some specific topical breakdowns within the schedules that can be used by several related subjects.

Rather than repeating these directions and breakdowns, the editors have chosen to refer the user to the section already defined and developed, with instructions on how to use that information to create numbers in other related subjects. This does not happen often, but the user must understand the intent of Dewey and be able to follow these directions when they are found.
