Adding Geographic Locations

Another way to create classification numbers from the DDC is by adding notations from the tables to numbers contained in the schedules. Again, the starting point for finding these notations would be the index. For the next sections of this course, the information found in the index will be given, but the examples will be from the schedules only.

Our first subject is ELEMENTARY EDUCATION IN IDAHO. Looking in the index, we find that Elementary education is in notation 372. There is no mention of geographic locations under this subject in the index. However, we do find in the index a listing for Idaho that looks like this:

This indicates that the geographic notation from Table 2 for Idaho is 796.
